Sue Ives conducted invasive plant species surveys at three Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) projects in Ketchikan, targeting 14 prohibited noxious weeds and nine restricted noxious weeds monitored by the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, along with 23 other non-native species identified as species of concern by the DOT&PF.
Using ESRI FieldMaps, she recorded locations and collected field photos of the infestations. Specimens of suspected invasive plants were collected for later identification, and data were provided as GIS shapefiles and Excel tables. Sue completed the surveys within a month, efficiently managing logistics and safety in busy roadside areas.
