Joe Welch conducted Golden Eagle nest occupancy surveys in areas managed by the Bureau of Land Management around the Dalton Highway corridor. The surveys were designed to determine the nest status and condition of all historical nests and to locate additional alternate nests in the region. In 7 days of surveys, Joe visited over 525 nests or falcon territories. The results of these surveys will contribute to a wider understanding of interior Alaska Golden Eagle population dynamics and toward a nesting habitat suitability model, which will inform conservation and management strategies.
