Wetland Science & Permitting

ABR’s Wetlands Program has a team of wetland scientists with an in-depth understanding of both national and Alaska wetlands classification and mapping protocols. In addition to performing standard wetland determinations for small projects (e.g., housing developments and work pads), we have the remote sensing and ecosystem mapping expertise required to take on large projects such as pipeline corridors, ecoregions, and watersheds. We also collaborate with ABR’s soil scientists and landscape ecologists in developing comprehensive, science-based wetland functional assessments to guide compensatory mitigation planning. Our wetland services have been employed by a wide range of clients from the mining, oil, and gas sectors; small rural village development associations and municipalities, the State of Alaska, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Our specific areas of expertise include:

  • Regulatory compliance and permit consultation
  • Preliminary jurisdictional wetland determinations and wetland map production
  • Analysis of wetland functions & values
  • Aquatic site assessments
  • Mitigation and restoration planning
  • Wetland creation and restoration
  • GIS mapping & spatial analysis
  • Vegetation and soil sampling
  • Wetland status and change analyses
  • Wetland wildlife habitat evaluations
