Impact Assessment & Mitigation

ABR scientists have gained extensive experience in a broad variety of environmental impact analyses throughout Alaska since the mid-1980s. Key ABR staff has advanced training in NEPA documentation, including cumulative effects analysis. Our impact assessment team understands the need for well-defined analytical criteria to assess direct, indirect, and cumulative impacts in terms of magnitude, extent, duration, frequency, and likelihood. Our scientists understand the vital importance of developing and applying innovative, effective strategies to minimize or, when necessary, to mitigate project impacts or to develop fair and adequate compensation terms. ABR’s scientists have designed monitoring studies to evaluate residual impacts and provide information for adaptive management. Specific areas of expertise in impact assessment and mitigation include:

  • Extensive experience quantifying disturbances and evaluating associated impacts to wildlife and habitats
  • Assessment and monitoring of impacts of industrial development, including oil fields, oil spills, onshore and offshore wind energy, solar energy, communication towers, powerlines, hydropower, lighting, air and road traffic, and noise
  • Broad range of experience designing and evaluating mitigation plans for pipelines, roads, powerlines, communication towers, and wind farms
ABR's triple bottom line: "Environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic viability"
