Eider Migration and Collision Potential at Northstar Island, Beaufort Sea, Alaska

ABR used ornithological radar and visual techniques during fall migration to study the movement of eiders and other birds migrating past Northstar Island (an offshore oil-production island in the Beaufort Sea) and to evaluate the collision potential of migrating birds with the island.  We also evaluated movements and behavior of birds under various conditions of light, visibility, and winds, and evaluated the effectiveness of an anti-collision lighting system for collision avoidance. A peer-reviewed manuscript was prepared in 2005. 2001-2005.
