ABR Family Tragedy

Our ABR family is profoundly saddened by the tragic passing of our beloved co-worker, Erin Johnson. Erin and her field partner, Ellen Trainor, were savagely attacked by a predatory black bear while performing field work in Interior Alaska and, despite heroic efforts to repel the bear, Erin did not make it home. We are grateful that Ellen survived with only minor injuries but know that her physical condition will only be a small part of her recovery from this traumatic event.

Our grief is compounded because Erin had such an incredible network of friends and family, and by the knowledge that their loss is beyond our comprehension. We send our heartfelt condolences to Erin’s loved ones, and we encourage everyone to contribute to the science education memorial fund established by Erin’s family.
